Some Houston "rules of the road" (if they actually exist) as observed by me in the last weeks
So I've been adjusting to the driving style in Houston and I feel that driving here is a life enriching experience. Driving in Houston allows you to appreciate life to the fullest -- you feel lucky to be alive when you get home! Why? Well, here are some of the reasons as I learned on my own the rules of the road in Houston.
- To most drivers, the car is shorter and narrower than it may appear.
- Blind spot is defined as "the area surrounding the vehicle up of 20ft including the front of the car".
- Houston is a city of lane equality: every lane deserves to be a turn lane.
- Use of turn signal is a strategic mistake - it reveals your true intentions.
- Right of way is determined by the curb weight of the vehicle - it sets the base points for the right of way system.
- Flashy rims give +10 points to the right of way system.
- Window tint adds +5 points to the right of way system.
- Don't pity the fool who does not accelerate as fast as you.
- Acts of courtesy are considered an offense and are subject to fine.
- Accepting and thanking other drivers for courtesy is a sign of personal weakness.
..........AND (drum roll)
Four words: Texas Concealed Handgun License. (Right of way status +1000 points)
Given all that, I don't know if my Illinois license plate is a liability or sign of pride....
